Granny's Attic offers a wide range of quilting and needleart classes at the shop as well as at retreats. The teaching staff is available to teach at your guild or quilting group. Please contact us to arrange a custom class. Class Policies:fees due at sign-up. A class supply list will be available; please gather your materials prior to class. Sewing machines should be in good working order; or let us know if you need to borrow one of ours! If you must cancel your attendance at a class, let us know three days prior to class for a full refund or store credit. Summer 2011Our summer class schedule is presented here for your perusal—we hope you’ll find some projects that interest you! Let us know if you have any questions about the classes; we have most of the samples in the shop and would love to talk about them with you. We’re excited about some great new fabrics arriving this summer—especially the new linen-look Sausalito collection from P&B Textiles. Also new is the P&B Flora Bella collection—fun sassy bright colors to blend with so many summer favorites. This month our Christmas fabrics will be arriving—watch for some fun holiday prints from Fabri-Quilt and Blank Textiles. We’ll be itching to start new projects! Enjoy your summer days! Lori and Carol Anne Friday Finishing: bring along any quilting project you need help with and enjoy one of Lori’s lunches…an enjoyable day spent sewing! Class fee $15 includes lunch. First Friday each month. Fridays, July 1, August 5 and September 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m Classic Puss in the Corner Baby Quilt: this sweet design will cuddle your little one in style. Easy to piece, this pattern is cute made in scrappy fashion or with coordinating fabrics and leaves room for personalization and cute quilting motifs. Class fee $20. Wednesdays, July 6 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All Squared Away: the perfect scrap quilt for any occasion or decorating scheme, this quilt is easy and fun to make. Choose the size you’d like to make and any motifs you like to embellish the blocks or borders. Class fee $45 includes our pattern. A kit is available for $80 in the same lodge-look as our sample. Thursdays, July 7, 14 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cheerful Kitchen Collection: our newest pattern to decorate your table…and now yourself! Reversible placemats, napkins and an apron all coordinated in a cute fabric line will add a burst of cheer to your dining area. Class fee $25 includes our pattern. Fridays, July 8 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jewelry Bag: learn basic sewing skills as you make this useful little drawstring pouch. Suitable for kids or beginning sewists, this class includes a kit to make it even simpler! Saturday, July 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Block of the Month “Around the Block”: our quilts progress! Class fee $20 per month, includes Lori’s lunches! Saturdays, July 16, August 20 and September 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Heirloom Handkerchief Holder: a lovely wall quilt for your keepsake hankies. You can embellish the quilt with buttons, laces and embroidery to add to the sentimental value. Class fee $25 includes our pattern. Saturday, July 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Market Fresh Table Ensemble: just perfect for your summer decorating, this runner/napkins/potholder set will brighten any room. The napkins are made with our hefty double-sided method, while the runner and potholders are designed using the disappearing 9-patch technique. Class fee $25 includes our pattern. Fridays, July 22 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dream Landscapes: using Rose Hughes’ technique for piecing curves, you’ll make a small quilt in your choice of seasons. These quilts are embellished with couched yarns, beads and free-form quilting to add to the visual perspective. Class fee $60 includes the book and your kit. Tuesday, July 26 and Thursday, July 28 from 1 to 5 p.m. Four-Patch Frolic: a lovely quilt design with four-patch blocks dancing across the top. You’ll enjoy working with the variety of fabrics and large pieces as you make this dramatic quilt. This pattern is a great use for that new fabric collection you’ve had your eye on! Class fee $45 includes our pattern. Wednesdays, July 27 and August 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cabin Sweet Cabin: if you haven’t tried foundation piecing, or you need a quick review, this is a perfect class for you! You’ll make a miniature quilt scene of a cabin in the woods as you learn this fun technique. Class fee $30 includes kit. Saturday, July 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Star of Hearts Runner or Quilt: this classic design is a favorite with our customers. Appliqued hearts make a secondary star design in each block for a striking table centerpiece. Make more blocks for a larger quilt! Class fee $30 includes our pattern. Thursdays, August 4 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Half Log Cabin Quilt: an interesting variation on the traditional log cabin block, this is contemporary in its simplicity. It looks great in reproduction fabrics or batiks, like our sample. Class fee $20. Wednesdays, August 10 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Log Jam Lap Quilt: our Mystery Quilt for spring, this is no longer a mystery but can be seen in the shop as a tangible quilt! A bold and striking design from the late Judy Hopkins, this quilt will enhance any type of décor. Class fee $35. Fridays, August 12, 19 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Baby Receiving Blanket: something so simple is so much fun! A little sewing, a little cutting and voila! you’ll have a quick baby gift. Just have fun—we do! Class fee $30 includes our pattern and fabric kit. Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Runner for all Seasons: designed to show off a collection of seasonal fabrics, this runner can be assembled as a reversible piece if you wish! The cutting and piecing are so easy and straightforward, you’ll be making lots of them for yourself and as gifts. You can easily customize the size as well. Kits available. Class fee $15 includes our pattern. Thursday, August 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Approachable Applique: if you think you hate to appliqué, we suggest this class—we’ll teach you three hand appliqué techniques and three machine appliqué techniques. You’ll surely find at least one you like! Class fee $45 includes materials to make six potholders. Wednesday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Broken Lone Star: this incredibly striking traditional quilt is now incredibly easy to piece, thanks to the QuiltSmart method of foundation piecing on a fusible interfacing. You will be amazed at how easily this is constructed! $85 includes the pattern and printed foundations. Thursdays, August 25 and September 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Machine Quilting I: learn the basics of machine quilting with your own sewing machine as you work on a small quilt in this informative class. The class fee of $40 includes a kit. Saturday, August 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Circle Play: circular patterns are so much fun to play with and are so popular in quilting design right now. You’ll learn some great ways to deal with the shapes as you put together this delightful quilt top. Class fee $35. Wednesdays, August 31, September 7 and 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mariner’s Compass: another dramatic traditional design made easy with the QuiltSmart method of foundation sewing on a printed fusible interfacing. One large circular design is the perfect centerpiece for a bed-sized quilt, or use the circle as a rug or wall hanging. Class fee $60 includes the pattern and fusible foundations. Thursdays, September 8, 15 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Machine Quilting II: when you are proficient with the walking foot and bored with free-motion stippling, it’s time to learn some new designs and methods for your quilting with your sewing machine. Nine background patterns and several border designs, including a free-motion feather cable will be in your repertoire when you leave this class. Class fee $45 includes a kit. Saturday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Colorwash Heart: our newest foundation-pieced design, this fun wall quilt will perk up any corner of your house. You’ll learn foundation piecing on printed muslin as you make the blocks. Class fee $35 includes our kit and pattern. Wednesdays, September 21 and 28. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Machine Trapunto: take your machine quilting to the next level. You’ll discover this to be easier than it looks! Important prerequisite: lots of practice with machine quilting. Class fee $50 includes two sample quilts and notions. Saturday, September 24 from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. See you in class! |
